A group of children in Texas earned praise for their "touching" effort to keep a neighbor safe. The kids left a woman a note warning her that a "strange man" had entered her home.
The woman's daughter shared their actions on Reddit, turning youngsters into online sensations.
Children's warning to Karen Holt
Karen Holt, a local mom, received a message which said:
"Ms. Karren, we saw a strange man walk in your house, and we would like to know if you are OK. If you are, then text my mom. Love the gang."
The children noticed a man, and they did not know it was Holt's ex-husband coming to help with some home issues. After seeing the message, the Dallas-based mom shared it with her daughter, who shared it for the world to see.
Karen Hold spoke about finding the note, explaining that she is divorced, and her daughter's father came "to help me cover water faucets and do other things to protect against the cold front that was coming in."
Talking to Newsweek, Holt added that her ex often comes to help, but "he always comes in the back door. This time he exited the front door when the kids saw him."
The children left a note and knocked
Initially, Holt did not see the message, though she heard a knock. When she spotted the children, they said they knocked and pointed to the note they had left.
The woman was touched as she shared with Newsweek:
"When I read the note, I walked over to them and told them how kind and thoughtful I thought they were."
She shared that the youngest one was six, and the oldest was 11 years old.
Holt called the group of children "wonderful" and praised their parents for doing a great job.
Children with a plan
The mom of one of the kids, Susie, a woman named Elisabeth Rutledge, said that the children came "rushing in" and were "moving fast" as they planned to place a note on Holt's door.
She added, "Karen texted to send me a picture of the note."
Rutledge added she felt proud, pointing out that "during the pandemic, everyone of all ages got to know each other."
The proud mom shared another story about the thoughtful children:
"Earlier this summer, they were playing outside and noticed that an elderly neighbor's front door was wide open. They alerted the parents, and we discovered it was dangerously hot in her house because of her air conditioning." Then the adults helped.
Susie said they saw a strange man enter the house, so they wanted to ensure Karen was OK.
"We knocked on the door, but no one answered, so we got worried."
They wrote the note, taped it on the door, and knocked again.
The Reddit users loved the efforts
The original poster left the note with a comment, "My parents don't live together, and my dad does look strange."
The post was upvoted over 70k times, and many Reddit users left wonderful messages as they, too, were touched by the children's actions.
