A man has turned to the AITA subreddit to ask the internet whether or not he was wrong to tell his girlfriend she had no right telling his daughter to take off what she deemed as “provacative makeup”.
Girlfriend Has Only Been Living With OP and His Daughter For 6 Months
His post starts off with him explaining that his girlfreind of three years has moved in within the year, and has been there with him and his daughter for 6 months.
He mentions that he’s a widower and for this reason, he wanted to make sure his relationship with his girlfriend was serious before he gave her the greenlight to move in.
His daughter and his girlfriend get along pretty well, but he made sure to set a boundary with his girlfriend, stating that he wasn’t looking for some kind of stepmom for his daughter.
“She's old enough that she doesn't need a "new mom,” he wrote.
He Allowed His Daughter To Go To A Party While He Was Away
The post continues with the OP explaining that he went on a camping trip with some of his friends for the weekend, so his daughter and his girlfriend stayed home together. His daughter was also going to a party that Saturday, which he approved of. And all seemed well.
Until he came back from his camping trip and his daughter rushed to him, complaining that his girlfriend told her she needed to wash her makeup off and do one that’s less “provocative” before she allowed her to leave the house.
“I got angry at my gf and told her she wasn't allowed to order my daughter around and she wasn't allowed to prevent her from doing anything that I already agreed to,” he wrote.
Unfortunately, this lead into the OP and his girlfriend having a huge fight. So he wanted to know whether he was wrong or not for standing up for his daughter.

People Are Divided On Who Is Right or Wrong
Redditors were divided on the matter with many wondering how the OP would have reacted if his daughter was doing something dangerous and his girlfriend was the only responsible adult around to stop it.
However, he received a lot of support with one Redditor writing, “NTA. I seriously don't understand the Y T A replies here. Your daughter is 16, and you made it clear with your gf she is not gonna be a mom figure in any way whatsoever. It's not her place to talk about that and especially the taking of the make up thing, what is that all about??? Is she really .... shaming your daughter here?”
Another wrote, “Also you might wanna talk with your gf about the "provocative" thing. Its absolutely disgusting to have this mindset instead of talking about other people keeping their hands to theirselves.”
The OP posted an update about the situation, explaining that he after he decided to sit his girlfriend down to talk about it, she decided to move out.
They haven’t spoke since the fight except when she told him she’ll be back to get the rest of her things.
“Seems like I'll have to remain a single dad for a bit longer,” he concluded.
