Searching for people on Tinder has become a routine for many seeking love, but one man had a different vision for the famous dating app.
He saw the potential for it to become a lucrative business platform, but his ideas were not well-received, and as a result, he was banned permanently from using the app.
In a now-viral TikTok video, Thompson Ferrier presents his creative idea with the caption “Banned from Tinder for life. Who wants to join me to create Binder.”
Thompson opens the video by announcing that he's been banned from Tinder for life. “And no, I was not on Tinder for the three reasons you think I was on,” he explained, “I used it for business that’s it. I thought it was very smart.”
Thompson went on to explain the idea behind Binder, noting that Tinder is based on zip codes – in order to find someone in your area, you have to put your zip code.
This is exactly what Thompson did. He set up his personal profile as a business one, replacing his own profile picture with a "beautiful candle."
He then added a coupon code and started swiping.
“And it started working great because everybody's like, hey you know what I can use this coupon, it’s a beautiful candle, they all came to my website but then the zip code got exhausted,” he said.
Thompson later learned about Tinder Pro, which allows people to be in multiple locations at the same time.
“Oh boy, I searched the message code and I started swiping right, swiping right, swiping right for everybody. And guess what, it worked, it worked great actually,” he continued.
People then started claiming their coupons because they loved the picture of a candle.
“Then, don’t laugh, I all of a sudden got banned for life,” Thompson said.
He decided to reach out to the company and inquire about the ban, only to learn that he “was violating the community rules.”
Thompson envisioned Binder as a business platform for local businesses — like pizza joints, hair salons, or restaurants — to reach their target audience by setting up a personal profile and offering coupons.
“just swipe right all the local people and offer them let’s say $5 coupon for if you spend 20 bucks,” he said.

This way, you’ll be able to reach all people in your neighborhood in that zip code. And all people in your immediate local neighborhood will know exactly what you have going on for that day.
“I think we should come up with a new platform called Binder for business, that’s what I think, who wants to come up with Binder with me?” he asked viewers. “It’s an amazing idea, somebody call me,” he continued.

Here’s what viewers had to say
The video generated a lot of comments from people with different opinions on Thompson's idea, with some praising the sharing of such valuable financial advice for free, stating, “First free and authentic innovative financial advice I've seen on the internet in a long time.”
For some viewers, Binder wasn't seen as a profitable business idea, but rather an excuse for husbands to use dating apps without raising suspicion from their wives. One commented, “That's his excuse to his wife when she sees dating apps on his phone 😂.”
Others were more focused on seeing the candle mentioned in the video, begging Thompson for a “Picture of his ‘Candle’ 😂.”
It seems Thompson wasn't the only one to receive a lifetime ban from Tinder, with others being banned as well, but they chose to keep the reason a secret. One person commented, “I'm also banned for life. but my reason is different 😂😏😅.”
Joking aside, despite the varying opinions on Thompson's idea, his lifetime ban from Tinder suggests that the dating app has no plans to expand its services and create Binder, at least for the moment.
