A mom has recently came under fire after she posted a TikTok video revealing that she’s raising her boys to be ‘obsessed’ with her so that they never want to leave her when they get older.
The TikToker, who goes by isabelthomas23, posted a video of her taking her two sons into her arms as soon as she enters the room, hugging and kissing them as they smile and giggle. The text caption reads, “raising my boys to be obsessed with me so their future wife can’t say they are going to her side for the holidays.”
The video captioned “Mommy’s Boys” was met with criticism from viewers who thought the mother was setting her sons up for failure in their future marriages.
A TikToker Offered Her Perspective On How This Parenting Style Can Be Harmful
Another TikToker, @annettebaumeister, posted a response to the video, explaining how this kind of parenting style could be harmful to her children.
“No shade on this creator, just offering a different perspective,” Baumeister said in the video caption.
The TikToker started off her argument by stating that she didn’t want to criticize the mother for her unique parenting style, but wanted to offer her own unique perspective on the situation.
“I don’t want to criticize this creator; I get her point and what she’s trying to say,” she said.
She continued that she raised her own son in a shared custody arrangement for the first 18 years of his life, and that after going through this experience, she never wanted her son to feel torn between where he should go for the holidays or spend time with for the sake of keeping everyone happy.
“I don’t ever want him or any of my kids to feel that feeling of being torn between where they should be for the holidays, or anything ever again,” Anette explained.
She explained that her son also went on to marry a woman on the east coast, though she herself lives in Idaho.
When her son offered to move half way as a way to be between both families, Baumeister told him not to.
“I’m going to support that and if I have to take a backseat on holidays, I’ll take a backseat, for all my kids.”
She continued that she wants to have a good relationship with her kids, but she also wants them to be independent of her.

Viewers Agreed With Many Stating That This Was The Perfect Way To Have A Toxic Mother and Daughter-In-Law Relationship
Many viewers of the response video agreed with her perspective, saying that the previous TikToker’s view could harmful to both her and her sons as it could cause tension between the mom and her daughter in laws.
One user wrote, “I feel like a lot of “boy moms” treat their daughter in laws badly, maybe love and respect them and they’d come to you lol. Love your perspective !!!”
Another added, “It is not now, nor will it ever be, my kids jobs to validate me in anyway. I have 5 sons, I will love and support them and their partners either way.”
