A mom posted on Reddit asking the community if she was wrong for pulling her daughter from a waterpark trip because her teacher forced her to stay with a kid she doesn't like.
The OP explained that her daughter Bryn F9 and her class were going on a class trip to a nearby water park.
Despite her daughter’s love for all things water and her months-long anticipation for this trip, she came home in tears a few days ago and told her mom that she didn’t want to go.
The mother asked her the reason for her crying and she initially wouldn't tell him, fearing she would see her as a "bad person."
She eventually got the information out of her daughter and discovered what was troubling her.
Her teacher forced her to be the "buddy" of a classmate for the entire trip, who “whines whenever they have to do work and picks his nose and wipes boogers everywhere.”
Her teacher, Ms. N, had made her the "buddy" of classmate Ben for the water park trip. She must now ride the bus, eat lunch, and go on all the rides with Ben instead of her friends.
The little girl explained to her mom that nobody likes Ben as he's always whining when it comes to working. She also said that he picks his nose and leaves boogers everywhere.
The mother was “horrified” to discover not only Ms. N's choice to make Bryn be Ben's "buddy", but also the way she made her daughter feel as if she was a bad person for not wanting to do it.
She added that he had a previous, bad experience with Ms. N, as she used her older daughter – who is gentle-spoken and smart – as a "behavior buffer" for the naughty boys until she had to threaten to report her.
Apparently, Ms. N hasn't changed her ways, as she continues to enforce archaic gender roles on her students and burden girls with emotional work for the sake of the boys.
The mother immediately sent the teacher an email expressing her disapproval of her actions, only to get a response that ended with “if Bryn goes on the trip, she has to be Ben’s buddy.”

The mother informed Ms. N that her daughter wouldn't be going on the trip and immediately booked VIP tickets for the same day as her class trip instead.
This way, Bryn won’t have to be the “buddy” of the kid she doesn’t like, and she could still visit the water park and spend time with her friends at the same time.
And being a parent of a popular student, Bryn, the mother was able to befriend several mothers in her class, with whom she shared everything about Ms. N's actions.
They were “horrified” as a result and decided to pull their kids from the trip. In the end, close to half the class will not be going on the trip.
The mother then received an email from Ms. N informing her that either the cost for the remaining students will go up or the trip will have to be canceled.
The teacher “begged” her to let Bryn go on the trip and asked her to convince the other parents to do the same, promising that Bryn wouldn't be forced to do anything she didn't want to.
However, the mother responded that she should have taken that into consideration before attempting to make her daughter do her job.
The mother mentioned that her husband said that she was being “a bit petty” and that it was clear that Ms. N was regretful about her actions, suggesting that she let Bryn go on the trip as she’s already gotten her way.
So she turned to the Reddit community with the question: “Is my husband right? Or am I justified?”
