While Airbnb is a popular choice for those looking for a unique and budget-friendly travel experience, one man's experience with a "crazy host" who charges exorbitant fees suggests otherwise.
Be careful with crazy Airbnb hosts!

In a TikTok video that has since gone viral, @doveslayer89 argues that not all Airbnb hosts are “nice,” sharing his own experience of staying at a woman's house that turned out to be much more expensive than he expected.
Extra rules

He shares this one time when his Airbnb host messaged him two weeks before his check-in date with a laundry list of extra rules and charges, including a staggering $50 per minute for late checkout (even though her hourly rate was listed as $25).
When Airbnb reached out to her, she confirmed the $50 per minute fee.

Not only that, but bringing a friend over would result in a charge of $50 per guest, and wearing shoes or sandals inside the house would also incur a fee of $50 per guest per day.

During his stay with 11 people for 2 days, the shoe fee alone totaled $1,100. Additionally, she imposed a limit of 3 beers per person, with each extra bottle beyond that incurring a charge of $20.
More charges for remote control and utensils

The charges for staying at that lady's house didn't end there; should you lose your remote control, she'll charge you $100. If you lost one of her cooking utensils or a knife, you'll be charged either $50 or $500, respectively.
Thus, if you lose any silverware, dining set, or cooking utensils, each item will cost you $50.
He argued that you could get a set for 50 bucks

“I could have probably bought her a whole brand new knife set and utensil set for 50 bucks, let alone 500 for a knife,” he says.
$2,000 for excess trash

However, the knife charges pale in comparison to the trash fee, as the host apparently charged a whopping $2,000 for having more than two bags of trash.
Charge of 5,000 USD for a 600 USD TV

And if, by any chance, you broke her TV, be prepared to fork out $5,000 - even though it was only worth $600 at Sam's Club.
Fee for noise complaints

While he finds cleaning fees and noise complaints reasonable, other charges like the $1,000 fee for a noise complaint are excessive.
He stressed that "some charge you for any and everything under the sun"

In his video, he stresses that not all Airbnb hosts are as accommodating and would offer beverages to their guests. “Some are just crazy and just trying to make a quick buck and charge you for any and everything under the sun,” he explains.
He then reminded viewers to be extra cautious

Airbnb reached out to the host in this case, enabling the man to cancel his entire reservation and get a full refund for his stay. Nonetheless, he cautions viewers to be mindful of these types of Airbnb hosts and to read the house rules carefully to avoid being taken advantage of.
The viral video has prompted discussions about whether Airbnb is a viable and reliable alternative to the more established hotel industry

“Airbnb needs to cancel her account,” one viewer suggested.
“So we’re supposed to book her Airbnb and just stand in the place?” a second wrote.
"Better to stay in an upscale hotel"

“Airbnb's have gotten out of control,” a third commented, “with all the extra charges, it is better to stay in a upscale hotel.”
One of the commenters joked about being charged for breathing too loud

“If you breathe too loud it’s $80/per breath,” a fourth joked.
“Our host charged us because we had “too much trash” we were there a week and the house slept 16 people, “ a fifth shared, “Never doing Airbnb again!”
