Scott Galloway, a Professor of Marketing at NYU's Stern School of Business and a serial entrepreneur, gave "out of touch" advice to younger people and got blasted online.
Galloway's advice came from his WSJ interview
The Wall Street Journal shared an interview with the Professor, who is also a podcaster, author, and public speaker. Galloway was also named one of the world's best business professors by Poets & Quants in 2021. Galloway went viral numerous times and is no stranger to controversial statements.
Galloway's message for younger people
Galloway said, "You should never be home. That's what I tell young people. Home is for seven hours of sleep, and that's it. The amount of time you spend at home is inversely correlated to your success — professionally and romantically. You need to be out of the house."
Galloway's comments went viral
People were mad, and many accused the Professor, born in the late 60s, of being out of touch. Someone wrote on TikTok, "This is total BS," and added, "Hustle culture with a sprinkle of consumerism."
Many complained about the prices
People pointed out that living outside costs, as one commented, "You step out of the house and spend $100." Another added, "If I'm paying more than a quarter [of] monthly rent, I'm enjoying my space." This person simply wrote, "My home is our refuge from this crazy world."
Some accused him of being loud and wrong
The video gathered over 9 million views and counting, and many of the best-rated comments pointed out that Galloway's advice was wrong. Someone shared, "He's so confidently loud and yet wrong, bless." Another added, "These ppl are so out of touch with reality, like wow."
Many called out his "unhinged" comments
One TikTok poster added, "CEOs have become unhinged." Another followed, "OUTDATED ADVICE." This TikTok user chimed in, "Who is doing his laundry cooking and cleaning?"
What happened to remote work
Considering that many Gen Z people entered the workforce just before or during the pandemic, remote work became the new norm. One person joked, "Laughs in remote-working introvert." Another was brutal, "Dude is living in the 80's."
Many still work from home
Around 58 percent of Americans work from home at least once per week. A paper from Stanford University claimed that this hybrid combination of working from home and office could help employees develop relationships while maintaining flexibility.
Famous companies called for workers to come back to work
Many CEOs slammed remote work, and famous companies, including JP Morgan, Tesla, Citibank, and Goldman Sachs, called for employees to return to their offices. Still, an Upwork study suggested that by 2025, 36.2 million Americans will be working from their homes.
People were relentless in their comments
One person stated, "But the other billionaire told me the key to success is not having to leave your house. Whatever to do!!!!" Another had a message for Galloway, "Every time I leave, I spend $100… that's a no for me." Another chimed in, "Watching this at home."
Home is where your dog is
Someone pleaded, "But my dog is at home, bro." Another talked about happiness, "Very strange thing to preach. Home on my couch with my girl is my happy place."
This person shared similar views, "Dear capitalism, never going to sacrifice my happiness for you. ever." What do you think about Galloway's advice?
