‘Team Building’ Takes on a Whole New Meaning for This Employee Who Finds Out They’ve Been Training Their Own Replacement for 4 Months.

The supposed team development and growth ended up being a cost-saving measure where an experienced IT was replaced by a junior employee with less experience and a lower salary.

After spending three years loving and working for a company, one employee finds out the employee he’s been training for four months is their replacement.

The experienced IT, who shared their story on Reddit, said that they ignored some red flags because they thought they were just being overly suspicious or insecure.

They tried their best to maintain a positive attitude and overcome the negative experiences from previous jobs.

However, their hard work wasn’t enough to keep the job, as they were ultimately being replaced by the junior employee they were training.

And while it feels ‘sh....y’ to be let go so unexpectedly when they truly believed that everything was going well, the OP said that what happened got him freedom.

They came to this realization after sitting down today and looking back on all the times they were frustrated at this job, trying to bring about change or improvements, only to be met with pushback from leadership.

Even though they believe that this decision was for their own benefit and they’re ok with it, they expressed their frustration over their current financial situation as they were let go with no prior notice.

On the other hand, they explained that they’re not in this situation due to poor job performance, but because someone made the decision to use them for their own gain.

Finally, they advised readers to take care of themselves and not overlook any red flags in the workplace to avoid ending up in the same situation as they did.

What Reddit Community Had to Say

The post sparked a flood of comments from Reddit users, who engaged in a conversation about workplace injustice and shared their own experiences.

“Been done that way a few times in my life, its never a great feeling, no matter how often it happens, and all you can do is not beat yourself up, grieve about it for a day or so, then pick yourself back up by your boot straps & get to work finding a new job,” one wrote.

“This happened to me last month. I could’ve written this myself. I will never feel bad for wanting to leave a company again. Lesson learned,” a second shared.

“Never be loyal to a company. I learned that too late,” a third added.

Other commenters gave suggestions to the unemployed OP on how to secure a new position and possibly leave a negative Glassdoor review as a form of revenge.

“Go file for unemployment benefits, take a few days to decompress, then get started on your job hunt,” one advised.

“treat your job hunt like a job. Spend at least 3-4 hours a day applying for jobs,” another added.

“Please leave a Glassdoor review, this behavior is totally unprofessional,” a third wrote.

“The best Glassdoor review I ever saw left for a company, the reviewer said "I wish I could rate this company in black holes instead of stars," a fourth added.

The story shared on Reddit serves as a reminder to always pay attention to potential warning signs in the workplace. If you sense something is off or feel that you're being taken advantage of, just trust your gut and act accordingly.
