“49 years of marriage and I’ve only recently realised this”: Woman Shares the Number One Reason Why Men Block Out What Women Say

The stereotype that men don’t listen to women is a common joke, but it’s not so funny for women when their men just nod their heads and say “uh-huh” without actually hearing a word they’re saying.

Many women face this frustrating issue with their partner, but a video on TikTok could offer some help in this regard.

Sarah Dawn recently went viral on TikTok for sharing the number one reason why men block out what women say, all in an effort to “end the gender wars”, according to her bio

The video revealing the reason why men don’t listen to women has amassed over 590k views, with numerous people agreeing that the reason is spot-on.

“You wanna know the number one reason why men block out what women say,” she started the video “It’s not what you think.”

Sarah stated that the reason men tune out women is that they often think out loud, even if it’s in a random manner.

“Women will talk but a lot of times we’re just speaking out loud random sh..t,” she explained.

As a result, men may be unsure if women are just thinking out loud or addressing them specifically.

“So naturally, men a lot of time just tune it out if they don’t think that we’re talking to them directly,” Sarah continued.

She humorously compared men not listening to women to elevator music,

“Like, uh, elevator music,” she said, “and then all of a sudden we say something important to them but they didn’t hear it cause they weren’t listening.”

According to Sarah, this is the starting point of arguments between partners, “then the fights ensue,” she explained.

The good news is, Sarah didn’t just identify the issue but also provided a solution. She offered three pieces of practical advice for women to get their men to listen to them.

“I say it time and time again, best make eye contact, be in the same room, and give them a touch on the arm,” she advised.

Sarah noted in the video caption that while there are other causes of men not listening to women, this one was the funniest to her.

Commenters were in agreement that Sarah’s advice was spot on, and shared their own secrets for getting men to listen

Another reason given was that women tend to include too many unnecessary details, with the comment, “It’s because they give a lot of details NOT important to the main story and they don’t want our input anyways.”

“Telling me how they bought an apple in the shop.. for 25 minutes.. instead of saying I had an apple today,” a second pointed out.

“Or a 2 minute monologs to tell you something that takes 3 words to convey,” a third agreed.

Grabbing men’s attention first was one piece of advice shared to make them listen. “Or she just says something without trying to get my attention first,” they wrote.

“49 years of marriage and I’ve only recently realised this. I don’t have to respond to every thought bubble my child bride comes out with,” another shared.

There could be numerous reasons why men don’t pay attention to women when they talk, but Sarah’s TikTok video highlights one the most important ones: avoid speaking randomly in front of your man. When you have something significant to say, let him know you’re talking directly to him. Men are just that straightforward.

I always thought all the details would help my guy get to know me better. I didn’t realize it’s just making him tune out more. This is good advice.
