In response to someone’s request, a wife shared a Reddit post recounting the time when her husband's ex appeared at their wedding in an outfit that caused her dad to mistake her for a “stripper."
The post began with OP explaining that she and her spouse had chosen to have a micro wedding, limited to their immediate family and comprising only 10 individuals. And while the venue they selected was renowned for hosting significant events, they both decided to hire a smaller room.
She also mentioned that her husband, who shared a child with his ex, often communicated with her for co-parenting purposes.
The couple had planned on inviting her to their wedding as a friendly gesture, giving her the opportunity to see their child all dressed up and maintain a positive co-parenting relationship.
To their surprise, the ex had already informed her “DH” of her attendance, leaving him taken aback as he and his partner hadn't had the chance to invite her yet.
The ex showed up at the morning ceremony wearing what the wife described as “the shortest dress I've ever seen”
The wife was taken aback, not just by the short dress, but also by the fact that it was paired with "stockings and suspenders, skyscraper heels, nightclub makeup, and costume jewellery.”
Her appearance was so surprising that even the bride’s father pulled her aside and asked, "who hired a stripper?"
She later found out from mutual friends that she had messaged all of them to inquire about their arrival times.
And since she had invited herself to the wedding and the couple hadn't informed her that it was a small, family-only ceremony, she started to “panic” when she learned that the reception was entirely separate.
The wife had her own form of "petty revenge" on her special day.
The wife's plan was to ask everyone at the wedding to be extra kind to her so that each time she attempted to slip away, someone would engage her in conversation.
The plan seemed to be successful, with the OP observing, “she was extremely uncomfortable, and ended up sitting down with her coat covering her.”
She added, “I don't know what she was expecting, but everything turned out fine in the end.“
Commenters provided a detailed response to the wife's question.
“She expected a big wedding, where she would flirt with all the male guests and be the centre of attention and make her ex jealous,” one wrote, “thus her panic at a small wedding of just family she probably already knew some of.”
A second agreed, “Probably wanted to flirt with/pick up guys and make her ex jealous.”
A third noted, “She wanted to draw all of the male attention to her.”
Others praised the way the wife handled the situation, with one person stating, “killing someone with kindness is always the best way!”
