A woman revealed that her quest for employment led her to apply for a company and receive a callback for a phone interview. Much to her shock, she learned of the overwhelming workload she would have been burdened with if she had secured the position, leading her to decline the offer without a second thought.
Phone Screening Interview with Pulsd
Lauren Morgan (@laurenn_morgann) took to TikTok to share that she had participated in a phone screening interview with a job recruiter for an entry-level operations role at the New York City-based app, Pulsd.
Assessing the Fit
This initial phone call Lauran had with the job recruiter aimed at evaluating her suitability for further interviews with the hiring manager.
However, it seems that Morgan was unable to proceed with any future interviews with the company.
The Deal-Breaker, Morgan's Job Expectations and Qualifications with Pulsd's Recruiter
Despite acknowledging that the job recruiter was "really nice," she had a significant deal-breaker issue with the job itself.
"But, we're talking about the job, like [my] qualifications, expectations for the job, and what [I'm] looking for."
Office Hours Surprise
While the conversation had been largely positive, as the interview neared its end, the job recruiter revealed to Morgan the exact office hours and workdays that would be expected of her.
Work Beyond the Office
The job recruiter told Lauren that the position entailed working in the office five days a week, with the expectation of checking her work email and following up with people even after she left for the day once she arrived home.
Weekend Workload, Morgan Is Expected To Work on Saturday or Sunday
To compound the workload, the job recruiter told her that she would be expected to be in the office at least once during the weekend, be it on Saturday or Sunday.
This would be based on Lauren's preferences or if her boss specifically asked her to be present on a particular day of the weekend.
Too Much to Handle, Morgan Immediately Turns Down the Job with Pulsd
After learning about these expectations, Morgan immediately and without hesitation made the choice to decline the job offer and not pursue any further interviews, as the workload was overwhelming for her.
Not a Fit, Morgan's Response to Salary and Work-Life Balance at Pulsd
"He's like, 'So, what are your thoughts on that?' I literally just go, 'I'm feeling like with the salary and not really having any work-life balance, being that it is a six-day work week, and still having to do my job when I get home. It's just not aligned, but I really hope that you find what you're looking for.'"
Morgan ended the call after declining the offer.

Upon receiving a comment from someone who said, "I would have laughed once he said that", Lauren responded, " I literally was laughing and I’m such a bad liar I couldn’t even be like ‘Yeah I’ll get back to you!’ I was like ‘It’s gonna be a no for me.’”
Minimum Pay, Maximum Demands
When a commenter questioned the importance of the task that required such a significant amount of work and argued, "The emails can wait a day," Lauren responded, "They want you to literally bare your heart and soul for minimum pay."
Jokingly Commenting - Company Sleepover and 7 Days of Work
Another person seized the opportunity to inject humor into the situation, jokingly commenting, “At 6 days I feel like they’d deada.s say ‘Why don’t we have a company sleepover & we can work 7 days a week!’ *sleeping bags not provided*”
A Salary Of $42,000 A Year Is "Barely Livable" After Paying For Rent And Necessities
Morgan concurred with another user who pointed out the disparity between employers' demands and their inadequate pay, writing, "And then the salary is like $42k a year," to which she replied, "It's barely livable after rent and necessities."
Red Flag
While the overwhelming workload of this job may turn off many, one person appreciated the upfront honesty of the job recruiter.
They commented, “I appreciate the red flag up front though. Respect him for that part,” while another chimed in, “Wow they aren’t even trying to hide it. As a person in recruitment, that’s a nightmare.”
