It can be discouraging to receive minimum wage and be asked to perform tasks that are not part of your job description, this led one woman to quit her supposedly sales associate job on the very same day she got hired.
In a video that has now gone viral, TikToker @croissantwoman shares how she had to quit her job on the first day, even though she doesn't consider herself a “quitter."
“Today, I quit my job the same day that I started it,” she shares.
The woman, who works as a sales associate and earns minimum wage, admitted that she accepted the job despite the low pay and being assigned tasks that aren't normally expected of sales associates, such as checking emails, sending packages online, returning exchanges, and working an entire system as a sales associate.
She expressed her concern to the woman who was training her for the job when she assigned her roles that are usually reserved for key holders, asking “are you sure? I'm just being a sales associate.”
“Yeah, no, sales associates do this,” she replied, “that's what you're supposed to be doing.”
However, she insisted that she was given key holder responsibilities, telling the woman that it wouldn't be a problem for her to take on these additional tasks, but she should be earning at least one or two dollars more per hour for doing this.
“They're trying to rip me off,” she shares with viewers.
She also mentions that this job required her to work 8-hour shifts with no breaks as she would be the only one in the store for the entire shift.
Despite the tough working conditions, she told herself to give it a week so that she wouldn't have to quit on the first day. However, no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't help but think to herself, "I never want to come back…It was just too much."
Even though she hates quitting, the new-then employee ultimately decided to quit her job on the same day she started it.

Commenters were in agreement that she had done the right thing, given that what the company had done was "illegal."
“Much hate to the company,” one wrote, “No break is illegal. Them trying to pass manager duties as a min wage job. They know what they are doing.”
A second agreed, “I can not believe that this was minimum wage!!! That’s manager level work!”
A third shared, “the no break would’ve been my last straw.”
A fourth added, “After 5 hours you are literally required by law a 30 min break,” with another concurring, “Excuse me no breaks?! that’s illegal.”
Without providing a reason, one person expressed their curiosity about the name of the company, writing, “don't be shy drop the company name.”
