Imagine this: you're all by yourself, enjoying a peaceful night's sleep when suddenly, you're rudely awakened by a persistent knocking on your door. And who's on the other side? Firefighters and police officers, convinced that they need to perform a wellness check on you. They refuse to leave until you prove to them that you're mentally stable, and they won't even let you put on some clothes first. While it sounds like something straight out of a thriller, that's exactly what happened to a woman named Riya.
Uninvited Guest at 3 am

Taking to TikTok, Riya (@theunstableunicorns) says that she heard knocking on her door around 3 am despite not inviting or expecting anyone, which she finds "strange."
“I'm a young lady. I live alone,” she asserts.
Heart-Pounding Moment

Riya continues, “So I do the thing that black people do when we hear a sound that we're not familiar with. I stare off into space and wait.”
Her fear further escalated as she noticed the mailbox in her door was open and someone was randomly flashing a light through it.
“Jesus Christ, Is This It? Is This How I Die?”

Although Riya was “freaking out” at this point, she refused to let fear take control and decided to just speak up, now weighing the decision of whether to call 911 or not.
Unexpected Visitor Revealed

She mustered up the courage to ask who it was, only to find out it was the Toronto Fire Department, leading her to question if there was a fire in the building or if she needed to get out.
Axe-Wielding Firefighters

Upon opening the door, Riya found herself face to face with two firefighters, one of them holding an axe.
"Are you okay?" they asked, to which she responded with a confused "Yeah," and asked them why they were there if there wasn’t a fire in the building, only to receive a rather unusual explanation for their presence.
They Were There To Prevent Riya From Harming Herself

The firefighter explained to Riya that they had received a call reporting that she was going to harm herself. "I'm like, what are you talking about?" Riya said, genuinely confused.
She wasn't sure if they had the right apartment or if they were looking for her neighbors.
It Was Obviously A Big Misunderstanding

As the conversation with the firefighters unfolded, both Riya and the firefighters were getting equally confused.
They took down her information, and everything seemed fine. Finally, they left, and Riya went back to bed.

Riya was caught off guard by another round of bangs on her door while she was in bed.
This time, it was the Toronto police. She opened the door and found three male police officers who told her that they needed to conduct a more thorough check.
Riya Was Feeling "Groggy" And "Irritated," And She Was Also “Half-naked” At This Point

She asked the police officers to give her a moment to put on some clothes before she could talk to them, but the male officers denied her request.
“So I go to close the door, He puts his f..king big old booty foot in the door and his arm on the door.”
She Wasn’t Allowed Dress Before Talking to Police

Feeling utterly confused, Riya asked the police officer, "Excuse me, what are you doing?"
The officer responded, "I can't allow you to close the door. We're police officers."
“I’m Not Suicidal!”

Riya was frustrated over the fact that she was unable to freely leave her door open while getting dressed, knowing that three men were at her door.
She also made it clear to the police that she had already spoken to the firefighters and insisted that she wasn’t suicidal or the person they were looking for.
“I'm Gonna Need You To Prove It To Me”

Despite her best efforts, Riya's attempt to convince the police to leave was unsuccessful, as they insisted that she needed to prove her innocence.
In frustration, she exclaimed, "How the f..k am I gonna prove it to you?"
She Stopped the Male Police Officer from Mansplaining Her

Riya and the police were engaged in a back-and-forth exchange, and she stood her ground by asserting, "I don't need you to mansplain anything to me. I understand the situation, and I am telling you that I am fine. I just want to get back to my bed."
“You're Going to Arrest Me?”

The police officer, still unconvinced of Riya's mental well-being, told her, "If you can't prove to me that you're okay, then we're going to have to take you in."
As a Last Resort, Riya Called the Cops on the Cops

Riya, overwhelmed with frustration, decided to call the cops on the cops in an attempt to resolve the situation and gather more information.
She inquired about the person who had requested a wellness check on her, only to be met with a response that they couldn't disclose any information.
They Were Just Going In Circles

Riya, growing increasingly frustrated, repeated once again that she was fine, requesting the police, “Can you please tell your officers that I am fine so they can leave my door?”
The response was unchanged, “I can't do that. they have to determine whether you're okay or not.”
Seeking Support in Real Time, Riya Goes Live While the Police Were at Her Door

After 40 minutes, Riya decided to go live because she was unsure of what to do and was hoping to get answers from her viewers. Eventually, the police left her alone when they realized she was on live.
“See, now I know why there's a song called F..k the Police and not F..k the Firefighters,” Riya concludes.
