Living together as a couple is a great thing, but when you share a home with someone, some mistakes will crop up every now and then which can result in heated fights.
This holds even more true when the mistake is a $250 one, as in the case of a boyfriend who shared a story about his girlfriend being 'clueless' for accidentally washing his pricey AirPods.
The boyfriend took to Reddit to pose a question to the community, asking if he was in the wrong for demanding $250 from his girlfriend who ruined his AirPods by washing them with his dirty sweatpants, without bothering to check the pockets.
The story begins when the boyfriend arrived home after a sweaty run and threw his sweatpants on the floor.
His girlfriend entered the room 30 minutes later and told him that she was going to start doing laundry. She asked what he wanted to have cleaned, and he answered her.
The girlfriend also asked if the sweatpants on the floor were dirty, and her boyfriend told her that they were, but he forgot that his AirPods were still in the pockets.
His girlfriend, unaware of the AirPods in the pockets, went ahead and washed the pants along with the other laundry.
The boyfriend mentioned that he was grateful for his girlfriend doing the laundry, but he didn't appreciate that she didn't check the pockets first.
When she finally finished the laundry, she came to the room and told him that his headphones got washed.
He asked her which one of his pairs of headphones got washed - the wired ones or the AirPods.

She answered that they were his AirPods, which was the point where the boyfriend got "furious."
"How can you be so clueless to not check pockets before washing?" He asked.
"I'm sorry it was an honest mistake," the girlfriend apologized.
To which he replied: "I'm sure it was but your mistake cost me $250"
He demanded his girlfriend $250 immediately. “No excuses,” he said.
However, he said that his girlfriend gave him an "excuse for not paying him back, saying, "I don't have $250 just to giveaway right now."
But he kept insisting on getting $250 from her, replying to her with "that's not my problem."
His girlfriend kept saying she didn't have the money at the moment and had no idea when she'd be able to pay him back.
He added that her girlfriend feels like he’s not making an effort to work with her and that he’s being “overly rude” regarding the situation, and that it could have been dealt with in a “nicer and better way.”
The boyfriend concluded the post by explaining why he was so upset with his girlfriend's mistake and why he believed it should not be tolerated. He compared the relationship to a job, with his girlfriend as an employee and himself as the boss.
“If this was a job and you cost them money they would fire you and make you pay them back. No expectations here just because I'm her boyfriend IMO,” he wrote.

The boyfriend sought the opinion of Reddittors and received a clear and consistent answer.
The Reddit community was clear in its stance that the boyfriend was in the wrong for asking his girlfriend to pay for his ruined AirPods
“Lmao YTA OBVIOUSLY. She’s clueless? You’re an adult. YOU forgot to take them out of your pockets. Come on now. Way to blame someone else for your mistake,” one user wrote, “Then you’re demanding it now and comparing it to a job? HOW is that the same? What’s wrong with you?”
“YTA - you’re mad because YOUR gf did YOUR laundry and didn’t check YOUR pockets?? Grow the f...k up dude. It’s not her responsibility. You might as well marry her if she is willing to put up with this kind of a...holery,” a second agreed.
“YTA. You are the sexist a...hole. Why is it your girlfriend's responsibility to check YOUR pockets!? How could YOU be so careless. Man up and apologize for being such a heartless, sexist j..rk,” a third advised.
“Holy .... not only are YTA, you're an a... of a person,” a fourth wrote.
Others had to remind the OP that being a girlfriend is entirely different from being a mother, writing, “YTA. She isn't your mommy. Do your own f...king laundry and don't just leave your clothes on the ground. I pray your gf dumps you she clearly deserves better.”
One Redditor added that this boyfriend's chances in the dating scene wouldn’t be favorable. They wrote, “YTA and most likely will be single after this.”
At the end of the day, couples make mistakes and have arguments, and sometimes it's hard not to be angry. However, according to the Reddit community, if someone’s doing your laundry, it’s your responsibility to check the pockets of your pants or do your own laundry to avoid costly mistakes like this in the future.
