"Boomers Have Catastrophically Failed": It's Unfair That Boomers Leave Younger Generations with a Bankrupted Country, Broken Homes, Rotten Culture, and Then Blame Them for It, Says Matt Walsh

It's to be expected that generations vary from each other in some shape or form, with each new generation striving to create a good life for the generations to come, which includes their children, grandchildren, and beyond. It seems that the boomers dramatically failed in this endeavor, at least according to Matt Walsh.

How Boomers Missed the Mark

In a TikTok video posted by @statussigma, Matt Walsh, who is a millennial himself, makes the case that boomers, despite growing up in ideal circumstances, fell short of providing the same opportunities to younger generations.

Moreover, he says that they are unwilling to accept criticism or make space for millennials and Gen Zs to "clean up the mess" they created.

The Decline of Purchasing Power

Walsh asserts that there is no denying the fact that money had significantly more value and purchasing power four decades ago than it does in the present. When considering inflation, jobs were generally better-paying, and the cost of living was comparatively lower.

Failure in Passing on Prosperity

He contends that boomers have not done a great job of creating a better world for future generations. In nearly every possible aspect - economically, societally, and culturally - the boomers inherited a better country than they will pass on to their children.

From Prosperity to Catastrophe

Explaining how boomers failed to pass on the prosperity they enjoyed to younger generations, Walsh states, “They inherited prosperity. They leave stagnation and decline and debt and bankruptcy. They inherited a vibrant and patriotic culture. They leave us one that is rotten and degenerate. They inherited strong nuclear families, and they leave behind a long, sad trail of divorce and broken homes. “

Younger Generations Don’t Even Ask for a Utopia

He argues that boomers failed to fulfill the essential responsibility of every generation: to build a better world for their children. "It doesn't have to be a Utopia," he asserts. “It will never be that, but it should be better.”

Legacy Lost

According to Walsh, the only legacy of a generation lies in the country it leaves behind. And when assessed using this sole and definitive measure, the boomers have “catastrophically failed.”

Continued Presence in Positions of Power

“And they're not done either,” Walsh says, highlighting the negative consequences brought about by boomers. “They're still clinging to their positions of leadership in DC and media and corporate America. They've made for some of the worst political leaders this country has ever seen.”

Resistance to Step Aside

The major concern for Walsh regarding the impact of boomers is that they don't even leave an opportunity for younger generations to try and make the situation better, refusing to “ride off into the sunset” and let younger people “clean up the mess.”

Can’t  Accept Criticism But Can Complain

Another problem with Boomers is that they typically don't handle this kind of criticism well, yet that doesn't prevent them from “bitterly” complaining about millennials and Gen Z.

The Forgotten Bond

“What they [boomers] like to ignore, or maybe have somehow forgotten, is that millennials and Gen Z are their children and grandchildren. That's all part of their legacy,” he points out.

A Poorly-Raised Generation

Expanding on his criticisms towards boomers, Walsh explains, “The millennial generation, my generation, we didn't sprout from the ground randomly like fungus. We didn't fall out of the sky like snowflakes. We were conceived and birthed and raised,  and in many cases raised poorly. In fact, raised may be an overstatement.”

Providing Only Basic Needs

According to his argument, a significant number of millennials were not truly raised; rather, they were only sustained with food, toys, and television, and then sent out into the world “with no moral or spiritual foundation whatsoever.”

Flipping the Script

While Walsh acknowledges that, these are generalizations, he strongly believes that they are accurate generalizations. “And anyway, millennials fall victim to generalizations all the time, so perhaps it's time for some other generations to get a dose of that medicine,” he adds.

Holding Boomers Accountable

Walsh recognizes the importance of openly discussing the “cataclysmic failures” of the boomer generation and ensuring they take responsibility for passing on to millennials every negative trait they now “so eagerly complain about.”

Blaming Younger Generations for Their Mistakes

Wrapping up his argument, Walsh remarks, “And that's important to point out, not to simply cast blame, but because it's not just or honest to give your children a destroyed culture, a bankrupted country, and then immediately blame them for it.”
