For anyone who has kids, one of the greatest challenges is protecting our children. Whether it’s from scary movies that may give them nightmares or even just from eating candy in the morning before breakfast, we fight every day and in every way to protect our kids from harm.
One mother of three, however, recently had to face an upsetting reality that left her both shocked and disgusted.
Leanne, the mother of 11-year-old, Jayde, went to seek medical attention after her daughter suddenly became very nauseous. Jayde would vomit so much that she would go up to 18 hours in a day needing to be nearby a trashcan or a toilet.
Doctors struggled to diagnose this mysterious illness, and Leanne sought out multiple opinions. She visited 5 different doctors before she finally received an answer for her daughter’s illness.
However, before her prayers were answered, one doctor suggested that the 11-year-old take a pregnancy test.
The mother described that she was “completely gobsmacked” that someone would actually think her daughter, who she mentions still played with dolls, was having intercourse at her young age.
The mother allowed her daughter to go through with the test only to allay the doctor’s suspicion. Of course, the results came back negative.
Eventually, the woman’s daughter was diagnosed with Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome, a rare disorder that usually starts in childhood.
While the exact frequency of the disease is unknown, many estimates that it occurs in 4 in 2,000 to 100,000 children.
The mother decided to share her story, explaining that she felt ‘disgusted’ and offended by the doctor’s interpretation of her daughter’s symptoms.
Leanne admitted that it was heartbreaking to see her daughter so ill, feeling helpless and worried that there was nothing she could do to help her, and feeling upset that so many doctors were also unhelpful. Some more than others.
But now, Leanne says they have relatively normal days, and Jayde’s symptoms are more manageable. The mother discovered that her daughter now only gets sick when she’s feeling anxious.
Our best wishes go out to her!
