How to avoid clogged poresYou thought all of your skin troubles were behind you when you got into your 20’s – no more breakouts, no more acne – wrong! Yes, many teenagers cross the age threshold into their 20’s and escape acne. But not everyone is that lucky. For many other adults, their teen years of dealing with acne turn into adult acne. You remember how this affects you as a teenager. Some kids have a very hard time dealing with a face that is always full of breakouts. It is no fun for adults either. It can’t help with dating or making a first impression in general.

If you're unsure of what kind of skin tone and texture do you have or how to determine it, try taking our quick quiz for a reading on that:

Skin Type Quiz

Why We Have Pores

Everyone has pores under the surface of their skin. They are supposed to be small and simply allow an opening for your body’s natural oils to go through to get to your skin. Your pores are not supposed to get overly dirty with oils and chemicals from make up and or other products. They are supposed let your skin’s natural oils come up through the surface to moisturize your skin. Unfortunately, things like stress, the environment, hormones, and much more make a difference in the size and health of your pores.

In general you need to keep your pores clean. Some women can get away with just washing their skin everyday with soap and water, while other women will have to put more effort in keeping their pores small to invisible. It also depends on whether your skin is sensitive, oil, or dry or slightly in-between.

Some Skin Problem That Happen From Clogged Pores

If your pores are clogged, not only do you stand a better chance of breaking out with acne, you can also get blackheads, and other skin imperfections. Your pores can get clogged enough to where you break out and get stuck with acne scars which are not just unsightly, it is not always comfortable.

Find Your Skin Type and Buy Appropriate Face Wash

You can also use facial cleaner that you see on the market. Make sure that the cleaner is designed for your skin type. If your face tends to get irritated easily and burns when you use most of the products you have tried, you most likely have sensitive skin. When you find the skin product that matched your skin type the best, you have a better chance of the product working for your skin. Not to mention, always consider gentle formulas and preferably natural cleansers. Because using a chemical cleanser with ingredients that strip skin of its natural oils, can worsen your skin issues. A properly-formulated gentle face wash containing nourishing organic ingredients such as hydrating goat milk skin care products, aloe vera face serums, and jojoba oil are safer options for most complexions. Mixing kitchen ingredients can also help minimize pores.

Natural Oatmeal for Skin

Using unprocessed oatmeal is very good for your skin. Not the one that comes in individual packs, but the one in the Quaker Oats package or in the bulk section – they have not had any processing done what so ever. Oatmeal has been used for many years for a few reasons.

  1. Oatmeal gives your skin moisture. It has natural fat in it that helps your skin get moisture.
  2. It helps your skin to not dry out.
  3. Oatmeal leaves a protective barrier – like film on your skin that is supposed to act like a shield against elements such as pollution, dirt, and more.
  4. Oatmeal is supposed to naturally clean your pores.
  5. Oatmeal is not the only natural ingredient that cleans and clears pores. Honey has a lot of benefits in this area as well. In fact, some of the recipes for using the oatmeal involve using honey with very warm water as well.

Opening pores before You Wash Your Face

No matter how you wash your face, you want to use luke warm to warm water, not really warm water. When you use warm water, you open your pores so that the cleaner you use to clean your face can get in to each pore and clean them out efficiently. When you are done cleaning your skin rinse in warm water and then give your self a quick splash of cold water. It may not be very comfortable, but it closes your pores to help prevent letting any impurities get into your pores after washing.

No Touching Your Face

You figure that as an adult, you outgrew that bad habit of touching your face. But you may surprise yourself at how much you actually do touch it. If you rest your hand on your cheek, move your bangs, and there are probably more scenarios – that involves touching your face. But when you touch your face you get the oil from your hands onto your face. Our hands have natural oils on them, but they also touch every little thing we touch in a day. So it is better to put your hands under your chin if possible if you are a self-face toucher.

Pores That Just Won’t Look Healthier

If you seem more prone to break outs even as an adult, and you have tried many of these things, your acne may be hereditary. You are going to have to try different things until something works for you and your skin. Diet plays a bit part in having healthy skin too. You don’t want to be eating a really poor diet and expect your skin to be amazing. It helps if you are eating somewhat healthy and getting the amount of vitamins and minerals your body needs.

Have you dealt with troublesome pores and skin? What have you done about it?
