While most people who get permanent eyebrows love the results, some are left dissatisfied. Various painful reactions suffice at this point, from shame and depression to anxiety. Some end up appearing worse than they were before.
But is that the end of the world? No. While things could go wrong, there is no reason to panic. Thanks to the following strategies, you can readily address this micro-pigmentation problem.
How to Remove Microblading at Home
1. Be Patient
Understandably, you desire to get these markings off as soon as you can. However, such is when emotions could overwhelm reason, meaning you could end up furthering the micro-pigmentation problem.
Usually, removing this pigmentation is as risky as it is to implant it. That is because they all cause scarring, skin pigmentation changes, and infections. Temporary redness and swelling could also happen after each makeup removal treatment.
Mostly, your eyebrows turn darker 2-5 days after microblading, 3-D brow service, or embroidery. Your eyebrows will look a little patchy after scrabs start to flake off on the fifth day. That means you can only begin to see the fruits of the service after 15-20 days.
If you want to speed up the fading process, you have to skip the 6- or 8-week touchup appointment. This touchup often aims to extend the time your eyebrows will last. It also allows the expert to fix various small issues.
The pigmentation fades away after 6-24 months, on its own. This period allows the microblading to fade and become less noticeable too. You can rely on conventional makeup to cover whichever PMU parts you don’t like during this time. This option is painless, affordable, and noninvasive.
2. Go Against Conventional Post-Procedure Care
Sometimes, overlooking post-procedure care instructions helps avoid pigmentation issues. For instance, most experts would suggest that you avoid sweating during this period. However, sweating could help flush out newly implanted pigmentation. For that reason, you can spend time exercising.
Saunas have also proven to help fasten this process. Ideally, these saunas ensure that you sweat without necessarily working out. They also help detox the body. Most experts suggest that you spend approximately 15 to 20 minutes in a FAR IR sauna.
Spending time under the sun is invaluable, thanks to its role in fading permanent makeup. However, be careful not to expose yourself to UV rays. It could result in sunburn, complicating things further.
You could consider swimming in chlorinated water. Its role in maintaining your pigmentation is astounding. However, technicians would have suggested otherwise. Swimming in saltwater could also come in handy. It often speeds up the entire process.
Facial cleansers rich in AHA and BHA offer anti-aging properties, which help remove permanent makeup. However, ensure that you do not use them on unhealed or sensitive skin.
3. Work on Yourself at Home
Various elements go into addressing pigmentation when at home, including the following.
• Exfoliation
Various exfoliation products can help fade permanent makeup. These products ensure that the upper layer of the skin sloughs off, exposing the deeper ones. Consequently, faster natural fading suffices.
• Retinol-based or acid-based products
Retinol has proven to be efficient in fading permanent makeup and pigmentation. Its role in skin cell proliferation is astounding. It also ensures that chemicals go into deeper layers of the skin. Ideally, this penetration enhances proliferation, allowing new skin layers to develop.
• Hydrogen Peroxide Paste
Using hydrogen peroxide paste alongside baking soda or salt could help reverse this pigmentation. Its role in fading microblading and PMU highlights excellent results. However, you must apply it within 24 to 72 hours after the surgery for the best results. However, hydrogen peroxide could cause infections too.
• Fading and Bleaching creams
These products are readily available over-the-counter. Bleaching creams come with different ingredients, providing you with different results. These ingredients include TCA, lemongrass, ascorbic acid, and kojic acid.
TCA and lemongrass promote faster skin shedding and peeling, while ascorbic acid lightens and renews the skin. Kojic acid, azelaic acid, white licorice, and alpha-arbutin facilitate melanin production in the skin.
Notably, these ingredients are FDA-approved, but they can only fade tattoo marks. That means they do not remove the marks altogether.
On the other hand, tattoo removal creams do not promote shedding or even bleaching. Besides, they barely live up to their hype.
4. Get Help From an Aesthetician
Aestheticians provide various services, including skin peeling, facial, and microdermabrasion. Here are a few insights into each.
• Facial
Professionals will often help you to choose the right facial treatment. Steam treatment shall suffice for anyone looking forward to speeding up fading permanent makeup. Masks containing AHA and BHA could also help.
• Microdermabrasion
This treatment relies on either loose crystals or diamond tips to gently remove the upper skin layer. This process ensures that the permanent makeup fades with time.
• Professional peel
Skin renewal is critical whenever you want to address pigmentation issues, and acid and enzyme peels will help. The best approach would be to consider a medium-depth peel. Above all, ensure that you use a reliable, licensed, and experienced professional.
5. Let a Microblading Technician Help
Most people will barely want to rely on a new microblading technician after a botched operation. However, various experts have distinct ways of handling botched work. Feel free to indulge a different professional, as they could provide better assistance.
Microblading technicians often help to address cosmetic and traditional tattoos. They could use alkaline-based or acid-based solutions in this procedure. Others could go for proprietary methods to remove this permanent makeup. Often, the choice is dependent on the extent of the pigmentation and your budget.
These technicians use a specific handtool to facilitate the entire procedure. This machine tool helps introduce the required solution into the skin, enhancing efficiency.
As long as you can get an experienced and renowned professional, you will have no reason to worry. These professionals use specific tools or approaches at all times, including the following.
Acids Plus PMU Tools
Undoubtedly, various creams and cleansers can help remove PMU. However, relying on a technician could ensure that you get faster and more effective results in the long run. As mentioned, the choice is between alkaline solutions and acids. While acids assure you of much better results, they come with multiple risks. That means only an experienced technician should handle it.
Remember, these technicians will use the same tools or products you use at home. For instance, they use PhiRemoval to remove unwanted tattoos.
The process often starts with skin cleansing and then numbing it with 5% lidocaine for 30 minutes. With needles on a microblade pen, the technician stipples into the existing micro-pigmentation for its removal.
This stippling ensures that the glycolic acid penetrates the epidermis effectively. The epidermis is where the initial pigmentation was implanted. Here, the acid mixes and liquefies the pigment. This mixture could rise to the surface. If it does, you can wipe it off with a sterile pad.
This procedure could result in a little bleeding or scarring. It also exposes you to scabbing during the healing process. This scabbing means more pigmentation on the skin.
PhilRemoval is relatively similar to laser removal procedures, and it requires multiple treatments. Its cost ranges between $100 and $200, meaning the entire treatment is about $450 to $600.
Saline
Most medi-spa professionals and doctors can comfortably a saline permanent makeup removal process. However, you can rely on PMU technicians for the same.
This process entails tattooing a saline solution in an already tattooed area, removing the pigment. This solution breaks down the pigment, ensuring that it flows to the surface of the skin. Notably, it works in different colors simultaneously.
This process is less painful, less expensive, and less invasive than laser. However, expect a little bleeding and bruising during the healing process. Too much darkness or brightness around the affected area could suffice also. Remember, it is different from salabrasion, which uses salt to sand off skin layers. Notably, salabrasion is no longer popular.
Saline procedures cost between $125 and $250 for both eyebrows. The treatment takes between 4 and 8 weeks. The number of treatment sessions will vary between 3 and 10.
"Tattoo Remoov"
Here is a unique ink extraction method you cannot overlook. It uses a specific tattoo removal solution and device. This solution’s ingredients are magnesium oxide, calcium oxide, zinc oxide, and benzoic acid. It also comes with deionized water, food molecules, N-propanol, and triethanolamine.
This process requires patented needles that move back and forth to exfoliate the stratum corneum. It also increases the temperature of the skin water. The increase in this temperature ensures that the tattoo removal product gets sucked into the skin.
Consequently, the Tattoo Remoov serum mixes with the ferric oxide in the dermis, resulting in the pigment coming out.
Each session costs approximately $150.
Color Correction
This process corrects a botched PMU by implanting a new pigment over the previous one. However, applying a lighter over a darker pigment could pose a problem. It often leaves traces and draws attention.
Alternatively, you could change the shape and color of the eyebrow with darker pigments. This process is relatively challenging, and relying on a professional should be a priority. The fee charged for this procedure varies. Often, you pay about $750 for the first session and $199 for subsequent ones.
6. Medical Professionals Could Help
- Laser
Laser removal is one of the most popular options at hand. Its regulation varies across different states. Some states require a medical practitioner to perform it, while others do not. This procedure relies on a laser beam, which is monochromatic and coherent. It breaks the color into small particles that the immune system can absorb.
Usually, your skin color determines the laser wavelength the expert uses.
The machines used are pricy, meaning the providers have to lease or own multiple devices to serve many people. Thanks to this expense, laser removal procedures are quite costly too. Other factors that affect its cost are the pigment color, type, and depth in the skin. This procedure will cost you between $250 and $500 per session. That means the full treatment could be between $1000 and $10000.
- Dermabrasion
This process uses a rotating brush to sand a tattoo or PMU off the skin. Its risks include discoloration and scarring. It is also less predictable, making it less popular among many people.
- Excision
This process involves surgically removing a tattoo. The affected area is sterilized and numbed before the procedure. The affected skin gets removed, and an incision is stitched up. However, the procedure leaves minimal scars behind.
While small tattoos require one excision, larger ones will take multiple ones. The process happens in stages, allowing the skin to heal. This process gets you instant results without worrying about repeat treatments. It also gets rid of the pigment or tattoo without leaving marks. However, its invasive nature could discourage most people.
Excision procedures cost between $1200 and $1800.
- Microneedling
Microneedling has proven to be a more effective method than laser removal. Its affordability and the ability to remove all types of pigments efficiently are striking. This process involves dragging a microneedle through the skin and over the microblading strokes.
This procedure is ideal for anyone dissatisfied with their microblading results. While it could take some time, this procedure is effective with both light pigments and shadows. The treatment takes approximately two sessions. However, if the pigmentation is so severe, it could take a few more sessions.
Microneedling barely hurts, thanks to the topical anesthetic applied. The numbing cream is often applied to the affected area, ensuring that you remain comfortable throughout the process. Besides, the needles used are reasonably thin.
Notably, this procedure allows you to heal much sooner. During this process, expect a little dryness and redness. Its average cost is approximately $150 an hour. That means you are likely to spend around $300 for the full treatment.
7. Chemical Removal
Here is yet another option you cannot overlook, thanks to its reliability. Chemical solutions often trigger the chemical process that lifts the pigment out of the skin tissue. Consequently, it gets extracted from the skin.
This process is noninvasive, assuring you of no further damage to the skin. It is a suitable choice for anyone with tattoos or pigments. Whether the pigment is light or dark, it would be right to rely on this procedure. Besides, it is painless and causes no scarring.
Chemical solutions come in different sets. Each set includes an aftercare cream and a disinfectant too. Typically, a set costs approximately $150.
The Easiest DIYs to Remove Microblading at Home
Undoubtedly, you look forward to having the easiest time when removing your botched PMU. While the approaches mentioned above are easy to follow, removing microblading could be seamless with the following three critical options.
- Warm Showers
There is no denying that this is one of the most overlooked approaches to removing microblading at home. Its effectiveness is astounding. However, it requires a higher level of commitment and patience.
This approach requires that you take a hot or warm shower twice a day for five successive days. The heat from your water helps open wounds, ensuring that the pigments come out slowly. During the shower, ensure that you rub the skin softly and massage it in circular motions. Preferably, use the tip of your finger during this time.
Take the time to blot dry with a clean tissue. This tissue needs to be dry, and you have to move it gently.
- Sea Salt
Sea salt is readily accessible these days. Its uses go beyond regulating body temperature and pressure. Usually, you can rely on it to address ruined PMU.
Take the time to crush this sea salt and mix it with lukewarm water. Ensure that you have two clean cotton pads, which you will soak in the solution. Use these soaked cotton pads to cleanse any unwanted tattoo area gently.
Mostly, you will use a patting motion. Leave the cotton pads on the affected area for a while, allowing the skin to absorb the sea salt into it. After that, you will rinse the eyebrows with clean water and pat them with a dry and clean tissue.
This method is ideal for people without sensitive skin. If you experience any irritation, it would be right not to repeat it.
- Rosehip Seed Oil
Undoubtedly, this is one of the most common remedies for removing microblading at home. You will apply this oil thrice a day, and it is for about two weeks. Ensure that you add between 1 and 2 drops to the affected area every day. Once you do this, massage the eyebrows gently and in a circular motion.
This oil helps lift the pigments on the skin. Its nourishing agents and ingredients ensure that skin healing is seamless. It also helps minimize scarring, assuring you of smoother skin. As long as you keep the affected area moisturized, there will be no reason to worry. You will also need to use natural products only. This way, you do not expose yourself to further complications in the long run.
What You Should Not Do During the Healing Process
It is important to understand what to do when healing. This way, you avoid exposing yourself to further complications. Here are a few things you should never do during the healing process.
• Never scratch or peel at any scabbing on your face
• Ensure that you do not cover the eyebrow with heavy makeup, lest you get an infection
• Do not allow anyone to work on your tattoo before 4 to 6 weeks elapse
• Ensure that you do not remove the pigments forcefully
• Never be rough with the skin surrounding your tattoo
• Avoid using chemicals around the affected area unless you are sure of their effects

Calculating done about a year ago and ended up hating it! I am mediately put distilled vinegar on a cotton ball and wiped my brows. I did this for three days and put a triple biotic ointment on them for healing. The vinegar took all of the pigment off!

PLEASE if you hate your new brows go to a professional that is CERTIFIED to remove them. There are many different saline methods, chemical and other that are used just for that purpose. DO NOT just find some removal kit that you have no idea what us in it and how it works. Again it could make the process worse. Also I would suggest if you absolutely hate your brows have them removed as soon as you possibly can. The sooner the better in this case. You preferably want to do this before the pigment settles in the skin. The sooner you get this done the better chance you have of removing the majority and having to have less sessions. I find if removal is done in the first two weeks you may get lucky and all pigment will come out. Unfortunately I have seen such an incline in bad permanent makeup. I have removed or corrected more than is exeptable. One reason is we have way more people than ever before getting into permanent makeup. These people are not being trained in a sufficient way that is going to teach them proper tattooing or educating them about client safety. I would suggest anyone who is looking into getting permanent makeup find out what the requirements are for your state for permanent makeup technicians to be licensed. Make sure they are licensed, insured, and HAVE PROPER TRAINING. In Washington State for example people do not need any real training to get a license. Anyone could get on a computer, get their license and start tattooing the same day. They could also start teaching the same day. There is no requirements whatsoever. SCARY! To get insurance a person must be 'certified' but this could be anything from an hour online course to a few day class. I am sorry but you CAN NOT learn tattooing in an hour or a few days. There is absolutely no way to know enough information to keep your clientele safe. So please do your research carefully. This is your face. A tattoo is a tattoo. No matter what nothing is semi permanent. Yes it may fade quickly but if someone implants pigment of any kind into your skin it is a tattoo and it is not semi permanent. You will always have residual particles left in the skin and it could leave a shadow like appearance.
Before letting anyone tattoo you investigate what your state laws are, ask how they were trained, how long was that training, how many certifications they have, if they are insured, how long they have been a licensed technician and ask to see before, after and healed photographs. If the permanent makeup artist puts clientele safety first they will welcome the questions and actually should be happy that you are taking the time to look into qualifications. I wish everyone the best and hope everyone has a wonderful experience with permanent makeup.
