If you’ve been scrolling through Twitter within the last few hours, you’ve probably come across a trend that is just as shocking and strange as it is hilariously dark.

#RIPJimmyFallon became a viral hashtag out of nowhere.

Let's see what happened!

On November 15, late in the day at 8:23 pm here in western timezones, a user named @EclipseShade69 posted this tweet:

Gone but not forgotten. Rest easy king 🕊🥀

— Eclipse Shade🍥 (@EclipseShade69) November 16, 2022

The tweet went viral in a matter of hours, and in the early morning of November 16, the hashtag started trending(despite the one in the picture being James Corden, to begin with).

Since then, the hashtag #RIPJimmyFallon has been flooding Twitter timelines, and many have started to express their condolences and grievances over the supposed “passing” of the popular Late Night Show host.

Jimmy Fallon

However, others have been going with the joke since it started trending, posting images of Jimmy Fallon alongside other comedians such as James Corden (pictured above) and Steve Harvey.

Jimmy Fallon also responded, asking Elon Musk if he could fix the issue.

"Elon, can you fix this? #RIPJimmyFallon"

Elon, can you fix this? #RIPJimmyFallon

So clearly, Fallon is alive and doing just fine.

But how did #RIPJimmyFallon start?

A few users have stated that the tweet by the user EclipseShade69 (the tweet's original poster) started the trend.

Further research into the user showed that this was just a tweet posted in satirical fun as the user tweeted this after several hours of the hashtag going viral:

"Since this is seriously blowing up, thought I'd just comment that this is satire. Fallon is alive and hope he's doing well."

So if #RIPJimmyFallon gave you a little scare that one of America's favorite Late Night Show hosts has passed away, we’re here to assure you that everything is all good.

Based on Twitter comments, most people had a good laugh about it.
