Making mistakes and living with regrets is part of the human experience. Yet, some regrets can be avoided. All you need to do is listen closely to the oldest and wisest in the community.
In a viral YouTube video by Sprouht, a young interviewer talked to several seniors to learn from their experiences. Here are the highlights and wisdom you can start practicing today!
Aging Would Be Easier If People Were Kinder
A 70-year-old man reminded people that age is just a number. He was asked what being 70 felt like. He merely stated it was a year more than 69.
Sadly, he ended his wise words with a statement that people look at seniors differently, as if they were worthless.
One woman said that she feels like she is in her 20s. However, she seems to be invisible to the world, again proving that younger people treat seniors poorly.
She added that the one thing she would like to change about the 20-something people today is social media and the lack of communication since people are always on their phones.
Aging is a bit painful, but it is not as scary as many made it out to be. It would be much more enjoyable if younger generations recognized seniors and respected them.
There Is No Need To Rush
A 73-year-old man described his age as “wonderful.” He added that it all depends on the life you had, and he seemed content. His only regret was marrying too young, at 18. He wished he did not rush, adding that if he would to do it all over again, he would marry in his 30s.
One couple advised younger people not to worry as much. They added that you would not always be happy, and that’s part of life. But you should not worry but simply live instead of overthinking everything.
A gentleman said that young people are always in a hurry, so his advice is to calm down and be more in touch with the here and now.

Travel More
A couple mentioned they only started traveling when they had enough money for posh hotels. They wished they did backpacking and traveled more while they were still young.
An older man wished he had traveled more and dedicated more time to learning to play musical instruments and languages. He said he traveled throughout his life but still did not visit all the places he wanted.
As others pointed out, spending time and money on superficial things is rather wasteful. Traveling feeds the soul, and you should not wait until you are retired. There are too many beautiful places, and you cannot leave them all for your senior and twilight years.

Spend Less Time Thinking About What Others Think
A lady in her 60s expressed that she cared too much about other people’s opinions when she was younger. At the end of the day, what matters is the people doing meaningful things for themselves and your community. Caring about random people’s opinions is a waste of time.
One couple said they no longer see the point in having so much stuff, while another said that you do not have to beat everybody.
A lady in her 70s said that spending time and money worrying about your looks is pointless.
You don’t have to be the best or look the best to have a good life.
As an elderly lady pointed out, you should not be a follower but have an independent mind instead and make your judgments and decisions.

Even people who finished university wished they did more regarding their studies.
If you are passionate about something, a lady in her 70s wants you to go after it. Another man pointed out that you should be doing more challenging things.
Another woman encouraged people to keep on learning every day because that’s what life is about.

More Wise Thoughts From Seniors
One lady wisely said that you need to learn to love yourself to be able to love others.
Another man pointed out that being a good person makes life worth living.
A senior woman kindly suggested that you put off your phone and communicate the old-fashioned way.
Say what’s on your mind, and speak up. You will only regret things you did not say or do.
Finally, don’t smoke, exercise, and enjoy each day!

What is Aging All About?
One man stated that aging is like playing football every day, and each time you see yourself in the mirror, you get surprised by your looks. You feel sore and look different, yet you are the same.
Another man said he played hockey until he turned 84, stating that he feels good regardless of his advanced years.
A couple in their mid-70s said they could not believe when they got to their age, as they, too, do not feel that old.
Aging is not as dreadful as one might think. The worst part is how society reacts to those in their 70s, 80s, or older.

I am 88 years old and have traveled when we could have afforded it....We have 7 children and both of us have worked hard to provide for them .. My advice it to marry in your 20's at the earliest and to who you are attract ed to. Work for a large company where there are more chances to advance your self .. Beware of one person ownership .I spent 16 years in a one manned newspaper . He sold it without telling his employee and it closed ....It broke our hearts as we were trust worthy employees .I went to work for ALCOA and advance to a foreman for the rest of my career ....
