In a now-viral video, a divorce lawyer shared the top five professions women should avoid marrying, based on 13 years of experience and watching the most difficult cases involving men in these five professions.
Katherine Leonard, a lawyer from Atlanta, Georgia, said that there was a noticeable trend in the professions of her clients who wanted to divorce, and she decided to share what she learned over the years to save women from a potentially failed marriage.
When she first started practicing law, Katherine was given a statistic about men's professions that women should avoid marrying.
“I thought, that's a really random thing to think about [and I wondered] how would you even get that kind of statistic? But it stuck in my head,” she said.

But over the course of the years, Katherine realized that this statistic has some truth to it, as the most difficult cases she witnessed as a divorce lawyer was involving a man doing one of these jobs.
Before Katherine mentioned these five red-flag professions, she made it clear that “This is just for fun” and it’s just a common trend that she observed.
These professions are a fireman, police officer, military, surgeon, and pilot.
But again, you don’t have to worry if you’re already married to someone in these professions, “it doesn't mean it's your doom to failure or that your husband is a bad person,” she said “I'm sure there's outliers to any statistic.”

Now the most important question is, what makes these professions particularly dangerous in a marriage?
According to Katherine, the common things among these five professions are that they tend to be more narcissistic, controlling, and more difficult when dealing with a divorce.
“They have kind of a nuke the Earth, how dare you challenge me, type of approach to litigation,” she said, “'The men in these professions, they're Gods in these professions. If you're a policeman, you're walking around with a gun, you're walking around with authority.”

Commenters even shared other professions that they thought are red flags as well, including lawyers, chefs, financial advisors, and athletes.

Whether you think Katherine’ statistic-supported advice is accurate or not, we can all agree that professions can somehow influence one’s personality over time, and consequently their relationship with their partner. So be careful who you start dating, your marriage could end up failing just because you choose a partner in an incompatible profession.
