A TikTok shared a now-viral video showing a person sitting next to them in an empty Starbucks. The Tiktoker recorded the interaction or lack thereof, resonating with thousands of others in a similar position.
People felt triggered
Many people were in this situation. You are alone on an empty bus with nothing but your thoughts and a million empty seats. Yet, someone has to spoil the fun by sitting right next to you.
In the TikTokers original video, the overlay text read:
"The whole Starbucks was empty, and look where this man chose to sit."
Of course, many recognized the situation.
The user @sli.mothy, who recorded the situation, added the caption:
"This one triggered me."
The video, with around half a million likes, spoke to many, and the comment section was flooded.

Most Commenters Sided With The Original Poster
Many agreed they would get up and move, as one TikToker wrote:
"I'd straight up tell them to sit somewhere else."
Another agreed, adding they would want to return the "favor:"
"I've just learned to get up and move. Oh, it made them uncomfortable? Me too, so IDC."
Others wondered what made these people want to create such awkward social situations:
"There needs to be a study on this because WHY!!?"
Another TikToker wondered whether this was an experiment:
"I have this theory that people do this intentionally to see if they can make you uncomfortable and analyze your reaction."
They added that this was a "weird social experiment."
Some even suggested it was "an intimidation tactic."
No Sense Of Personal Space
Considering that the original poster was on the laptop, clearly working, as seen in the video, and there were multiple empty tables, the man violated TikToker’s personal space.
Going through the comments, many had ideas, but no one had a solution on how to handle these unpleasant, forced interactions. Some suggested sneezing, while others wondered if the man was lonely and needed a friend.
Regardless, if you really want to sit next to someone, many agreed you should ask them instead of making them regret exiting the house.
Do you feel triggered in these situations? Would you move, leave the store or confront the other person? Drop a comment!

I’ve had this happen to me several times when I go out by myself during what is usually down time at movie theaters or coffee shops. I’m not triggered by such; however, I do roll my eyes when it happens. In this photo the gentleman appears to have a nice build. I would have started taking pictures of those legs and arms. Maybe even a photo with him while he was on his phone just for kicks.
