Welcome to the French capital, Paris, the City of Light, and Love. But do not let the delicious pastries and iconic landmarks deceive you, the French capital seems to have a less charming, darker side, especially if you’re a woman under the Eiffel Tower.

One tourist highlights the issue of street harassment that many women face under the Eiffel Tower, showing that the dream destination city may not so romantic after all.

Katie Schmidt posted a now-viral TikTok video where she's all dressed up in a fancy dress, smiling big and posing in front of the Eiffel Tower, and the caption on the video reads "Eiffel Tower expectations."

But then, in the video, Katie shows the not-so-pretty side of the famous tower that people don't often talk about: s*xual harassment. She caught on camera a seemingly Turkish guy trying to get her into a hotel room and used Google Translate for communication.

The translation of his Turkish sentence was: “Do you want to come to the hotel with me?”

Katie didn’t have a second thought and instantly rejected the one-night stand. “No, can you leave us the f.... alone?” she replied.

The video has racked up a whopping 3.4m views and hundreds of thousands of likes, with a lot of people finding the whole thing hilarious.

“The fact that they probably read it the first time and said “hold on” and filmed it for a second take lmaoooo glad y’all are safe,” one wrote.

“its the google translate for me,” a second shared.

“bro came from turkey to France for that,” a third laughed.

“He just wants to take a couple pictures of you, relax,” a fourth commented.

Many viewers found her video amusing and begged Katie for a second part. And she delivered, in another TikTok video that reads “No one tells you about the guys that harass you under Eiffel Tower,” where she highlights the issue of harassment under the Eiffel Tower.

The video shows multiple men trying to approach Katie with unwanted attention. One guy even asks her "How much?"

To which Katie replied: “How much for s*x? Zero.”

The video has generated thousands of hundreds of views, and the comments section is filled with people making fun of Katie's hard time in the city.

“Zero, Oh so it’s free?” one questioned.

“He said damn girl you ain’t charging?” another commented.

“Paris has fallen,” a third wrote.

“Diggas in Paris,” a fourth added.

All joking aside, Katie's experience serves as a reminder that even in one of the most iconic and romantic locations in the world, street harassment can still occur, and people can still approach you with unwanted attention, leaving you feeling anything but peaceful during your visit to the country.

But let's not let a few bad actors ruin the charm of the city—Paris has been always, and will always be the destination for those looking for rich history, unique art, world-class museums, and of course, the best hot chocolate in the world.

So, as you plan your trip to the city, don't forget to take the necessary precautions to stay safe—keep your eyes wide open and be aware of your surroundings, and you should be able to handle street harassment and get the most out of your visit!
