A woman recently shared a story that gives her chills about a stranger man calling her from her sister’s phone number as she hears sob sounds in the background and demanding not to tell anyone.

In a video that has gone viral online, a woman named Beth (@bethroyce) recounts a traumatic scam experience, sharing it as a warning to people not to fall for the same scam.

Beth says that she had been crying all morning after receiving a phone call from her sister's contact, with her sister's face popping up on her phone screen as if it was really her calling.

Answering the phone call, she was met with a man's voice on the other end screaming at her and saying:

“You’re not going to call anyone else, you’re not going to call the police, you’re not going to talk to anyone. I have your sister.”

Beth stresses that she's not someone who is easily fooled by phishing emails or spam calls, saying "I never fall for anything."

However, it's hard for her to put into words how real everything sounded. “This was like the realest scariest moment of my entire life,” she asserts.

Beth proceeds to explain how the man was yelling at her and appeared to be completely “unhinged” and "crazy."

She could even hear muffled sobs in the background, which sounded like a woman crying, causing her to exclaim, "Oh my God, that's my sister!"

The woman was fully convinced, with 100% certainty, that the situation was real, particularly because her sister's contact appeared on her phone instead of an unknown number.

@bethroyce I feel the need to tell everyone I know about this. Literally the scarriest moment of my entire life #scam #scammers #scammed #hostagesituation #trauma #phonescam #fyp #foryoupage #fypシ #viral ♬ original sound - Beth

She found herself speaking to the unknown man for roughly 15 minutes, trying to calm him down and engaging in small talk before ultimately sending him the money he demanded.

Unlike typical kidnappers who specify a ransom amount, the man on the phone with Beth didn't ask for a specific amount of money.

Instead, he cried and kept repeating phrases like "I need you to just send money", "I need to get home,” I just got out of jail", and "I'm not a bad person."

Beth shares that the part that still gives her chills and makes her really scared is when she hears a sob in the background, with the man saying:

“Listen, you need to calm down, you’re going to hurt yourself. I’m going to get money from your sister and then everything’s going to be fine. I’m going to let you go.”

Beth was fortunate to not be alone at home when the incident took place, as her mother was visiting town at the time. Upon receiving the call, she quickly went downstairs and quietly woke her mother up because the man was threatening her not to tell anyone.

Her mother immediately called the police, and Beth went outside to take the call on her front porch so that the man wouldn't hear any background noise.

"I was absolutely terrified that he would hurt my sister," she recounts.

Following the police intervention, Beth called her sister’s actual number and was relieved to hear her little sister's voice on the other end.

However, the incident left her extremely traumatized, and she fears that she may suffer from PTSD in the future.

If you receive a call similar to the one Beth did, she advises that you hang up and call back immediately, as this will allow you to call your actual contact and avoid falling for the same scam.
