A tennis legend, Martina Navratilova, called out another transgender athlete following the swimmer's new record.

Meghan Cortez-Fields, a Ramapo College of New Jersey senior, was a swimmer on the men's team for three years. She broke a school record in the 100-yard butterfly in Pennsylvania in late November and caused outrage. Similarly, trans swimmer Lia Thomspon achieved the fastest time in the nation while attending UPenn.

A former swimming champion turned activist, Riley Gaines, shared on X, "Ramapo College swimmer in NJ goes from less than mediocre male swimmer to a record smasher competing against the women." Gaines also shared on Fox News, "Those who choose to remain blind to the injustice of allowing mediocre male athletes to become record-breaking female athletes are either incompetent or misogynists. There is no in-between anymore."

Navratilova, who won Wimbledon nine times and is part of the LBTQ community, shared her distaste for those who were born as males competing in women's sports. She wrote on X, "Transgender swimmer at New Jersey college, Meghan Cortez-Fields, smashes women's 100-yard butterfly record after competing in men's team for three years - I will keep saying this over and over - this is wrong and completely fair and quite frankly a mockery."

The tennis star explained, following Tessa Johnson's win, that "there are more and more male-bodied trans people (males) competing against females. "She added, "This is patently wrong and unfair." After Austin Killips, a transgender cyclist, finished first at the Belgian Waffle Ride in North Carolina, Navratilova shared, "What a joke."

The college "supports all of our student athletes," but The Independent Council on Women’s Sports (ICONS) fired back, claiming that Cortez-Fields is erasing "a woman’s name from the record books." The college's statement said, "We are an affiliate member of the NCAA. We are in compliance. We have done everything the NCAA says needs to be done regarding trans athletes competing on the team. All of the steps were taken, and documentation was provided for approval of Meghan’s participation."

The school initially celebrated Cortez-Fields on Instagram

The post celebrating the victory was removed by a student “who wanted to protect their teammate from insulting comments," the college said. The statement added, "We remain concerned about the vitriol that we have seen on social media and the threats of violence against some college members."
