Former federal prosecutor and legal analyst Joyce Vance shared thoughts on the Trump team's filing, arguing that a gag order is unnecessary because Trump is not responsible for "what other people do." The response did not sit well with Vance, especially after it was revealed that Judge Arthur Engoron and his law clerk, Allison Greenfield, received hundreds of threats.
The DOJ wants the gag order back on
Federal prosecutors notified the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals of a document claiming a gag order must be reinstated against Trump during the civil proceedings in New York. The filing details the "hundreds of threatening and harassing voicemail messages" sent to New York Judge Engoron and his law clerk, Greenfield.
Trump's team fired back
"To date, the prosecution has never submitted any evidence of alleged 'threats' or 'harassment' to any prosecutor, court staffer, or potential witness in this case," Trump's lawyers said, adding, "This falls short of the 'solidity of evidence required to justify a prior restraint.'"
Vance was not having it
In her blog post, the former prosecutor wrote, "Trump filed a response today, insinuating that he is not to blame for what other people do. But that is a tired and laughable effort to shirk blame at this point." She mentioned Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, who were targeted after some MAGA Republicans made false claims about them.
Vance's warning
Vance continued, "We cannot say it loudly enough or frequently enough: Trump continues to be a danger to us." She warned, "Anyone who doesn't understand that they or someone they love, their children or grandchildren, could be the next one subjected to the treatment Judge Engoron's law clerk is receiving, or that Fulton County election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss were subjected to, isn't paying attention. There are very real risks."
Every alleged threat was documented
An affidavit from Charles Hollon from the Public Safety Department's Judicial Threats Assessment Unit says there have been 275 pages of threats left for the judge and his clerks since October. After the first gag order was lifted, Greenfield allegedly started receiving 20 to 30 calls daily to her personal phone and 30 to 50 messages on her social media.
One example
One such threat says: "Resign now, you dirty, treasonous piece of trash snake. We are going to get you and anyone of you dirty, backstabbing, lying, cheating American. You are nothing but a bunch of communists. We are coming to remove you permanently."
