'We do stupid things in life': Says George Santos While Preparing to Swear in

Last Modified: January 4, 2023 by Sylvia Silverstone | This post may contain affiliate links for products we love and suggest. The views expressed in the article are solely the author's opinions.

Though George Santos tweeted that all confusion would be cleared in his interviews with the Post and WABC, his words and lack of explanations only made him seem more "mysterious".

Here is a brief look into what he said, then confessed he did not tell the truth, and other, just as essential questions he left unanswered.

Rep.-elect George Santos admits to being dishonest about his resume, but "not a criminal"

GOP Rep.-elect George Santos (N.Y.), 34, claims he is "not a criminal who defrauded the entire country and made up this fictional character and ran for Congress."

He confessed to The Post he didn't graduate from any college. Yet he claimed he had degrees from Baruch College and New York University.

He apologized on WABC and the Post "if I disappointed anyone by resume embellishment."

There were also questions regarding his employment. Santos admitted he had "never worked directly" for Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, chalking his previous statements up to a "poor choice of words."

Should your biography paint the best picture of you or the version which might question your entire existence? Let's find out more about the soon-to-be sworn-in Congress representative.

Grandparents Who Survived Holocaust?

When The Times published their piece on George Santos, most took it with a grain of salt.

One of the most intriguing parts of the piece concerns his Jewish grandparents, who fled Europe during World War II. Forward, a Jewish nonprofit investigated the story.

Their findings say that Santos' grandparents were born in Brazil many years before the Holocaust.

The state elect said only a month ago:

"I'm very proud of my grandparents' story. My grandfather fleeing, Ukraine, fleeing Stalin's persecution, going to Belgium, finding refuge there, marrying my grandmother, then fleeing Hitler going to Brazil. That's a story of perseverance. I'm so proud. I mean, I wish I could have met my grandfather."

Now, he says that he was always a Christian, as he told the Post he "never claimed to be Jewish," but "I said I was 'Jew-ish."

George Santos Had a Wife?

The first openly gay republican congress elect claimed he had been out for a decade and never had issues within the party.

So, was he married to a woman he divorced in 2019, a few weeks before he started his campaign?

In October 2022, he told USA Today he never had an issue with his sexual identity, adding, "I will always be an advocate for LGBTQ folks."

If you have already made the voters doubt your life story and professional achievements, it is hard for them to believe in you as they did during the campaign.

Santos, according to his words, is married to a pharmacist since 2022. Allegedly, there are no records of Santos being married.

Santos promises he will be sworn in, but Democrats object

Rep. Joaquin Castro (Texas) said that Santos "should also be investigated by authorities."

Rep. Eric Swalwell (California) argued that Santos "confessed to defrauding the voters of Long Island about his ENTIRE resume."

Incoming House Democratic Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (N.Y.) said Santos "appears to be a complete and utter fraud — his whole life story made up."

Rep.-elect Dan Goldman tweeted:

"He didn't graduate college, didn't work on Wall Street, and isn't Jewish — all of which he asserted to dupe the voters in Queens and Nassau. Santos is not fit to be a member of Congress. He must resign."

Among other things, the questions of Santos' residency and properties were also discussed.

Santos simply told The Post, "We do stupid things in life." He promised he would be sworn in on January 3.

Will There Be More Bombshells About George Santos?

Santos' CV fabrication makes other allegations, confirmed and those still up in the air, look less headline-worthy. It is safe to assume the voters would pay more attention to the claims regarding religion, sexuality, or their use or abuse.

Republicans claimed Democrats made Santos a target for being gay Latino, but if he confessed even partly to being dishonest, perhaps it is not red wave vs. blue wave. Maybe it is about transparency and freedom to choose without being feared that we are being cheated, one way or another.

The only question is whether there will be more revelations about George Santos or whether this story will end with more questions than it started with.
