You finally landed that date with the love of your life, the apple of your eye. You buy a new dress and perfume, do your hair and makeup, and get model ready. You can't wait for 8 o'clock to roll around so you can finally meet your dream guy.
He is perfect. Everything you've ever dreamed of impeccably dressed, nice teeth, smells good. He takes you to your favorite restaurant. When the two of you finally sit down...Silence.
- "What did you do today?", you ask
-He answers, "Nothin' Much....You?"
-"Nothing much."
(More silence).
You get where this is going, nowhere fast! Many of us have been in those awkward first date situations where you can't seem to just converse, in fear of saying the wrong thing as a resort to impress your date.

There are just short spurts of sentences being exchanged (texting is partly to blame). How will you ever find out if your date likes to go hiking, or whether he prefers salmon to steak? We need to discuss this.
What are the best questions to ask on a first date?
To save you the mind-numbing aggravation of silent torture, I have compiled 10 questions to ask on a first date. It's always more productive to ask open-ended questions, something that will get your date to open up with more than a yes or a no.

Then he can ask you questions, and as the two of you get more comfortable, you'll be laughing and exchanging stories in no time.
Don't worry, they're not embarrassing, I promise.
Here are the 10 best questions you can ask a guy on the first date:
1. What was Your Family Like Growing Up?
How fun and innocent is this? He can tell you about how his older brother always threw him to the ground, you can talk about your loving dad.
Family stories are a great way to get an idea of what kind of person your date is and whether they might want children in the future.
Disclaimer: Please don't ask about having future kids with your date and don't ask your date if they have any children, let them bring it up. If you, yourself have children, then you want to wait until around the third date to let him know this, or when you feel the time is right. By this time, he will have established a small bond with you.

2. What Kinds of Things Really Make You Laugh?
Another great question that will get him talking. You might find out that both of you like raunchy Judd Apatow movies or the quirky Portlandia show.
Sharing similar styles in humor is a great start to a long-lasting relationship.
3. Do You Have any Real Pet Peeves?
As a great counteract to the previous question about humorous styles, ask about pet peeves. Get to know what sets him off. The both of you will learn what not to do as to avoid an argument in the future.

4. Who is Your Best Friend & How Did the Two of You Meet?
Getting to know about a potential mate's best friend is a good way to find out what kind of people he or she gravitates to and whether or not they are good or bad influences in your date's life. Now don't dictate who he or she hangs around, but chances are the types of people they like to kick it with reflecting them as an individual.
5. What's Your Favorite Place in the World?
This question lets you find out if he likes to travel a lot and if he does, is it to tropical getaways, the North Pole?
If your favorite place is Greece, while his is Norway, great! Variety is the spice of life after all.
6. What Do You Want to be When You Grow Up?
Find out what his goals in life are. Is he happy working for Burger King, while you would like to one day become an editor at large of VOGUE? Or perhaps you aren't on the same wavelength when it comes to success ideals.
Not to say that it should matter, but do you want only one person pulling all the weight financially?
7. What's Your Favorite Way to Spend the Weekend?
You will learn what he likes to do on his days off if he has hobbies, likes to volunteer, or hang out with his family or maybe he just likes to relax and watch TV.
Learn if his hobbies coincide with yours. It's not practical to spend all your time with him but you should have some things that you like to do together.
